    Published on

Nigerian musician Blackface has accused several Nigerian musicians of stealing his songs.

Blackface is one-third of the legendary Afrobeats group Platainshun Boiz comprised of 2Baba FKA 2Face and Faze whose music contributed to the early growth of Afrobeats.

After Plantainshum Boiz split, Blackface (real name Augustine Ahmedu) would be locked in a battle over the ownership of 2Baba’s hit single ‘African Queen’ which he claims he wrote while the group was still together.

Blackface also claimed that he wrote most of the singles that rocketed the boy band to mainstream success albeit his claim has been continuously denied by the other members of the band.

His former bandmates aren’t the only ones whom Blackface has accused of illegally sampling, interpolating, and copying his music. He has pointed fingers at some of Nigeria’s biggest stars whom he accuses of intellectual theft in what has become a recurring claim.

Here are some of the artists Blackface has accused of stealing his songs.

    2Baba

Blackface’s first major accusation came in the long and bitter dispute over the ownership of 2Baba’s hit single ‘African Queen’ which he claims he wrote. After a lengthy public dispute, Blackface would later be credited as a songwriter on the single.

    Wizkid

In 2023, Blackface accused Wizkid of lifting one of his songs ‘Twist & Turn’ for his single ‘Ginger’ featuring Burna Boy off the ‘Made In Lagos’ album.

    Wizkid & Banky W

The former Plantainshun Boiz member accused Wizkid and Banky W of imitating his 2010 single ‘Like The Way’ in their collaboration ‘Slow Whine’ off Wizkid’s 2011 debut album ‘Superstar’.

    Asake

Blackface while speaking with Naija FM claimed that Asake copied his song ‘Ikebe Supper’ for the his hit single ‘Joha’ which is one of the tracks off his 2022 debut album ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’.

    Olamide

While appearing on the Honest Bunch podcast, Blackface accused Olamide of jacking his song ‘Killer’ which according to Blackface has a similar baseline to Olamide’s ‘Don’t Stop’.
