The comedian emphasised that he simply voted his choice and used his influence for the cause.

Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has set the record straight, stating that he never campaigned for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential elections.

During a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, Seyi Law clarified his position, emphasising that at the time, he only focused on highlighting Tinubu’s achievements in Lagos. He also stressed that he did not explicitly endorse him for the presidency.

“I never said, ‘Vote for Tinubu.’ Go and check. I write the things that I know he did in Lagos, and I will put ‘Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is my candidate or is who I am voting for.’ I didn’t tell you to vote for him,” he began.

The comedian also stressed that he was only one out of the millions of Nigerians who voted for President Tinubu and the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) during the elections. He emphasised that he simply voted his choice and used his influence for the cause.

He went on, “Seyi Law did not make the 8.9 million that voted for him. I am just a number among those numbers. Yes, do I have influence over some people? Maybe. I used my influence for what I believed in. And I believe that this person is the person that would take us to that Nigeria that I want us to be.”

In 2023, Seyi Law received tremendous backlash for his open support of Tinubu and the APC, and he announced his family was receiving death threats because of it.

In February 2024, the comic debunked singer Eedris Abdukareem‘s claims that he regretted his decision to vote for Tinubu, and clarified that it was simply a joke and nothing more. In the midst of the economic decline in Nigeria and outrage by Nigerians, Seyi Law reiterated his unwavering support for the administration.

He also recently penned a detailed open letter to President Tinubu regarding the economic decline, urging him to make necessary changes to make Nigeria better for all.
